Casa de las Campanas - PONTEVEDRA
Rúa Don Filiberto 9-11. 36002 - Pontevedra 986 80 20 80

Situated in the calle de la Barca, the building has this name since 1416 in honor of the boat of the Benedictine order that linked the city with the coto de Poyo. This is one of the most legendary buildings of Pontevedra: the Casa de las Campanas, today center of the university of Pontevedra academic board.
Regarded as the oldest and best preserved civil building, the Casa de las Campanas preserves the 15th century facade, with two arch braces, as well as the original doorways and some heraldic carvings. However, that is achitecture. As the story goes, this is a mysterious civil building with a bell tower, along with the memories of the treasure of the captain of the “Burla negra”, a pirat of the sailor’s neighborhood of A moureira, Benito Soto.
This seaman used to say that “the dead don’t speak”, and the story says that after his travels all over Cabo Verde, Azores or the Canary Islands, he came back to his homeland, and before being killed by the English in 1830, he left a huge fortune within the walls of the building. -
